Liverpool v Everton: Mersey Battle as Liverpool March On

A full midweek fixture list in the Premier League has thrown up some intriguing battles but there’s nothing quite like a Merseyside Derby. This time around, the game has plenty riding on it with Liverpool and Everton engaged in different targets at opposing ends of the table.

For unbeaten Liverpool, the challenge is to march on and claim their first ever Premier League title while their opponents in Blue are in danger of being sucked into a relegation battle. Can the formbook be thrown out of the window or will Wednesday night’s game provide us with an obvious winner?

Match Odds

When we consider that contrasting form guide, the prices in the result betting hold no surprises. Liverpool kick things off and you can back Jurgen Klopp’s side at best odds of 2/5 with Coral. The draw is the next option on the list at 4/1 with William Hill and VBet while a win for Everton completes this section at a top price of 8/1 with SportPesa.

Liverpool have won four of their last five and the only blip came in the Champions League when the Reds were held at home by Napoli. Everton have lost their last two but the Toffees were unbeaten in three prior to that run and fans will be hopeful that the side can raise their game against their biggest rivals.

If you don’t share that hope, you may want to switch to the side markets rather than take that short price of 2/5 on the home win.

Individual Goal Scorers

Mohamed Salah, Liverpool

It’s not been the best of years for Mohamed Salah by his own high standards but the Egyptian striker remains as the joint favourite to open the scoring here. Salah is on offer at best odds of 4/1 from Unibet and 888Sport while the same top price is attached to his teammate Sadio Mane.

Divock Origi is only just behind at a best of 9/2 with 888Sport and Unibet once again but the Belgian international centre forward is more likely to start from the bench. This market is dominated by Liverpool players and next up is Roberto Firmino who is available at best odds of 5/1 – also with 888Sport and Unibet. You could opt for Adam Lallana at a top price of 10/1 with VBet and Royal Panda while James Milner takes the penalties and could therefore be a tempting punt at a best of 11/1 with Betway and SportPesa.

Everton finally get a mention through Richarlison at best odds of 23/2 with Unibet and 888Sport. The Brazilian has 19 goals in 53 games for the Toffees but only three of those have come in 12 Premier League games this season. As a longer-range option, Gylfi Sigurdsson can offer a threat from set pieces and the Iceland international is out at a top price of 16/1 with Betway.

Our first confirmed tip of this game is a rather obvious one. Mo Salah may have experienced a stop-start season due to injuries but if he starts this game he will provide the biggest threat as far as Liverpool are concerned. Despite those concerns over injuries and form, he still has six goals in 12 Premier League games so far and 4/1 is a good price on such a prolific player.

Other Side Bets

Starting with the more obvious side bets, Both Teams to Score will attract some interest at best odds of 10/11 with BetFred. Everton have found the net in all but one of their last five matches while we know that Liverpool are the prolific and dominant force in the EPL.

Switching to Total Goals betting and the safer option is to go above the 2.5 line and claim 1/2 with 10Bet but we’re looking to push that to Over 3.5 and get the 6/4 on offer from SportNation and RedZone. There are plenty of goals in this game, we feel, although Liverpool will need to get the bulk of those.

We usually like to drop in a Correct Score bet and our preference for this game is Liverpool 3 Everton 1 which is quoted at a top price of 11/1 with 10Bet. Those looking for better value on the result may want to take the 29/20 on offer from 888Sport on Liverpool to win to nil but we think that the away side will have a goal in them. It should still be plain sailing for the hosts but hopefully these three tips will give us a decent profit, even if it is a one-sided game.

Best Bets:

  • Mohamed Salah to score the first goal at 4/1 with 888Sport
  • Both Teams to Score at 10/11 with BetFred
  • Over 3.5 Goals at 6/4 with SportNation
