It’s a definite TV phenomenon and while the 2019 edition of Love Island is already in full swing, there are plenty of opportunities to take advantage of some busy betting markets. We’ve already seen a number of exits since the show started but there are also a number of likely names ready to make off with the top awards.
If you’ve watched the show then you’ll no doubt have your favourites inked in but what do the sportsbooks make of it all?
The object of the show is for male and female contestants to couple up and become an item by the end of the series. The betting options for best couple are, however, only one of the markets available. We also have top man and top woman which are far busier while there is an ongoing market for the next elimination.
We’ll start with the main prize, even though only a small set of bookies are declaring at the moment.
Michael Griffiths and Amber Gill
This market may settle down in the weeks remaining: In the early part of the show, the idea of ‘coupling’ is a very volatile one with contestants tending to switch between partners before becoming more stable later on.
As such, at this relatively early stage of the competition, only BetFred are quoting prices and they have installed the pair of Michael Griffiths and Amber Gill as favourites at 11/10. Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague are next up at 5/2 and then we have Curtis Pritchard and Amy Hart at 11/2.
The market really drifts out after this point and, judging by these odds, we wouldn’t look to get involved with anyone beyond the top three. The fourth favourites are Anton Danyluk and Lucie Donlan and they are out at 16/1.
Several names follow until we get to the rank outsiders, Tommy Fury and Amy Hart, who are out at 66/1.
Tommy Fury
We’ll be focussing a little more on the Top Man betting as we have a little more insight and we think we may have spotted some value. The betting for Top Couple may have given some clues as to the favourites in this section and, leading the way is Michael Griffiths at best industry odds of 5/4 with Unibet and Bethard.
Tommy Fury is next on the list at a top price of 5/2 but the name that interests us is that of Curtis Pritchard at 6/1 with Unibet and 888Sport.
We’ll come back to Pritchard in our verdict but we’ll carry on with the prices in the Top Man market for now. The fourth favourite on the list is Anton Danyluk at best odds of 8/1 with Unibet and then we move out considerably to Danny Williams at 16/1 with Unibet.
We’re now among the real outsiders and they continue until we come to Tom Walker, who carries the highest top price of all the men at 20/1 with Ladbrokes and Coral.
Amber Gill
The women’s market has a favourite too in the shape of Amber Gill who is available at best odds of 5/4 with Unibet and 888Sport. She’s followed by Molly Mae Hague at a top price of 11/4 with Ladbrokes and Coral and then we drift out to Amy Hart at a best of 6/1 with 10Bet and SportPesa.
In this section we agree with the bookies and are not looking past Amber for the win. However, as a distant punt we were a little surprised to see Arabella Chi out at 12/1 with William Hill.
Like most of the bookmakers, we’re not going to get involved with the top couple betting right now. Take the 5/4 on Amber to win Top Woman if you like but for our main tip, we’re going to stick with the men.
Michael Griffiths came on to Love Island with no previous reputation but he’s proved a big hit. His straight talking seems to have given him the edge with viewers and maybe he’s a worthy favourite. Tommy Fury’s obvious connection with the boxer Tyson Fury will not have hurt his chances of winning and perhaps it is a straight fight between those two.
But we’re going to put our money behind Curtis Pritchard. As the brother of Strictly Come Dancing’s AJ Pritchard, he already has something of a public profile and he has previously appeared on a TV reality show alongside his sibling. He’s also an extremely likeable chap and very polite which could help gain votes from older viewers.
In short, Curtis Pritchard is a good all-rounder who ticks a lot of boxes and he also looks a good value bet at that 6/1 price.
