Sportwetten and German Ice Hockey Link Up

The sport of Ice Hockey in Germany has received a recent financial boost thanks to the involvement of LVBet who became a commercial partner last month. Matches are hugely popular in the country and in mainland Europe as a whole so it’s perhaps no surprise that further good news has been announced.

In the latest arrangement, The German Ice Hockey Federation, (DEB), has agreed to what’s been described as a ‘long term partnership’ with German bookmaker Sportwetten.

What It Covers

The DEB were guarded in regards to the length of the deal so it’s no surprise that the financial terms have not been released either. However, we understand that the key difference with this contract is that while LVBet were primarily involved with the leagues, Sportwetten.de will now be fully behind the German National Ice Hockey team.

Beyond that we are left to assume but as a multi year deal, this is likely to be worth high six figures in terms of Euros and possibly even more.

Positive

The extremely positive discussions and the serious, creative structure of the entire team at Sportwetten.de immediately convinced us that we are in the best of hands.

said DEB head of marketing Robert Schütt.

We are pleased to have a strategic partner on the side of Sportwetten.de who will develop the sport for the fans with us in the next few years.

Ingo Pauling, head of operations at Sportwetten.de, added:

The historic performance of the team in Pyeongchang has crowned the partnership.

We were convinced before that our brand fits in perfectly with ice hockey and its loyal fans.

Therefore, we are pleased that with the DEB we can take a first important step in the still young company history in order to inspire the fans for us.

Upward Spiral

The historic performance referred to in Sportwetten’s response relates to Germany’s Silver Medal in the recent Winter Olympics in South Korea. Having finished outside of the medal places at Sochi four years earlier, the result marked an impressive turnaround by the nation who agonisingly missed out on the Gold after losing to the OAR under the Golden Goal ruling in the final.

It’s naturally hoped that the finances brought by this deal with Sportwetten, along with those from commercial partnerships elsewhere, will help the country to build on that performance and become a continued force in both men’s and women’s ice hockey moving forward.

Bookie’s Benefits

The announcement confirms that the Sportwetten logo and branding will be clearly visible during Germany’s home ice hockey games for the duration of this deal and that the bookmaker’s advertising will clearly be seen by all those in attendance at the arenas.

With a surge in popularity following the Olympics, there should also be an increase in TV coverage of German national ice hockey and that has the potential of bringing the sport in to millions of homes across the country.

Sportwetten will also be able to use the DEB and national team logos in any of their marketing materials and this is therefore sure to be a huge positive in terms of attracting new customers in their native Germany.

Overall, it’s another good news story where a fringe sport receives vital funding and the sponsor gets good exposure in return so it will be fascinating to see where this long term partnership takes Sportwetten and German Ice Hockey.
