Sunderland Extend Coral Betting Partnership

Just over a year ago, the long-established sportsbook and gambling company Coral were announced as the official betting partner of Sunderland football club. As things turned out, it wasn’t a particularly happy time on the pitch for the Black Cats who suffered their second consecutive relegation and therefore started the 2018/19 season in League One.

It would seem, however, that Coral were happy enough with the arrangement as the two parties have announced a two year extension to the original contract which will now see them through to the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

What It Means

The extension to the existing contract means that the Coral brand will be very visible at the Stadium of Light as they provide a full match day betting service for all of Sunderland’s league and cup matches over the next two seasons.

Further advertising will be seen at pitchside and via social media and other digital channels so fans of the club will become even more familiar with the brand over the course of the next two years. Clearly the two sides are comfortable with each other as they welcome the renewed deal.

Journey

Tony Davison

Sunderland AFC’s managing director, Tony Davison, said:

It is great to see a leading brand such as Coral showing their support for the club as we embark on the start of a new journey.

We are looking forward to continuing to work with Coral, in what has already been a fruitful partnership for both parties.

Simon Clare, Coral’s PR Director, added:

We are thrilled to be continuing our UK partnership with Sunderland AFC.

We would like to wish everyone connected to the club, especially all its passionate and dedicated supporters, the very best of luck for the season ahead.

Aiming for the Top

Sunderland recently signed a headline sponsorship deal with the betting exchange BETDAQ and with the news coming through from Coral, the club has some important deals in place at the start of the 2018/19 League One campaign.

Two years ago, they were a Premier League side but those successive relegations have cost the club dearly and as they plummeted through the leagues, the Black Cats lost key players including England’s first choice goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

After a poor season in the Championship under former manager Chris Coleman, new owners moved into the boardroom in the summer of 2018 and a new manager was also appointed. Jack Ross moved over from the hot seat at St Mirren and he inherited a big squad from the outgoing boss.

Included in that squad are some familiar names including experienced midfielder Lee Cattermole who has been with the Black Cats through good times and bad. A number of players came in under Chris Coleman including winger Aiden McGeady and it may be that Ross has to trim that squad before adding to the payroll.

Obviously the ultimate aim for Sunderland is to get back into the Premier League where they feel they belong and that will require investment to find players who can cope at the highest level. It’s been a solid start for the club at the beginning of the 2018/19 season and they look to be on course to achieve that target. In time, the finances raised, initially by BETDAQ and most recently by Coral will aid that quest so this deal is good news for all involved.
