Wolverhampton Wanderers v Liverpool: Champions Elect Look to Maintain Long Unbeaten Run at Molineux

With 64 points from a possible total of 66 so far this season, it only is a matter of time now until Liverpool will be crowned Premier League champions for the 2019/20 campaign. Jurgen Klopp’s side are on course to overtake their previous best of 97 points last season, and potentially end the current campaign with the largest points haul ever in England’s top flight division, eclipsing Manchester City’s 100 points, just two seasons ago.

Of the 16 remaining games that Liverpool has left in the Premier League this season, a trip to Molineux to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers – kick: off 20:00 GMT on Thursday evening – is one of the trickier contests remaining for the Anfield club. At the time of writing, Nuno Espirito Santos’ side are in sixth place in the league table, and have taken many high-profile scalps, since returning to the top tier of English football.

Wolves have dumped Liverpool out of the FA Cup in 2018 and 2019, but the Reds have had the upper hand in Premier League meetings with three wins from three contests. Can Liverpool make it another win in the Midlands on Thursday night and tick off another game towards an unbeaten league campaign? Please read on for our betting thoughts and advice on this hugely important clash.

Match Odds

Liverpool are still the obvious favourites to claim the three points, but the Merseysiders are on the drift with virtually every bookmaker to win Thursday’s game. Unibet currently offer the best industry price of 7/10 on Klopp’s side, and it will be interesting to see how far the price on Liverpool will drift. I can’t believe that it will be much bigger – if at all by kick-off time.

The Draw is next best in the betting at 29/10 with Betfred and Sporting Bet, while a victory for Nuno Espirito Santos’ side can be taken with Unibet once again at the best industry odds of 19/4.

Wolves have gained 17 points from their eleven home games so far this season, which isn’t the greatest return for a team currently in the Premier League’s top six places. Nuno’s team – as you would expect – will give everything to win this game, but Liverpool do look to hold very strong claims for the victory here.

Individual Goal Scorers

Mohamed Salah, Liverpool

Fresh off the back of breaking his personal duck against Manchester United late in the game on Sunday afternoon, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah heads the First Goalscorer betting in this game at 17/4 with Unibet. Salah now has 11 Premier League goals this season, along with team-mate, Sadio Mane, who can be backed at the slightly bigger odds of 19/4 – again with Unibet.

Klopp could look to shuffle his attacking options in this game and offer Divock Origi a starting berth. The Belgian striker is a generally available 11/2 chance to open the scoring. Roberto Firmino has scored seven Premier League goals so far this season and if the former Hoffenheim man can add to his tally by scoring first in this game, the best price available is 13/2 with Unibet.

Wolves’ main attacking goal threat looks to be from Raul Jimenez, who has already bagged ten league goals. The Mexican striker can be backed with 888Sport and Unibet at 15/2, as Wolves look to make inroads towards the top four places in the Premier League. Fellow Wolves forwards, Pedro Neto and Diogo Jota are 12/1 chances with various firms to open the scoring.

A couple to consider at bigger prices include Wolves’ Adama Traore, who has performed admirably for his team this season, and can be backed at 14/1 generally to snare the opening goal. For readers of our betting preview of last Sundays’ Liverpool v Manchester United game, some of you may have profited on Virgil van Dijk scoring the opening goal. The Dutchman is such a threat at set-pieces, and he cannot be ignored once again at 16/1 with Betfred and VBet.

Other Side Bets

I have already pinned my colours to the Liverpool mast for this game, but I’m not prepared to weigh in at the pre-match odds of 7/10, so I’ve come up with some other options.

Firstly, the 7/2 on offer with 10BET and Betway for Liverpool to be level at Half-Time and to win the match at Full-Time is one bet that interests me. The Reds always look to begin games on the front foot, but this game be a difficult start for the Reds and Wolves may be able to cope with the home side’s attacking barrage until the break, but ultimately succumb to defeat.

Secondly, I’m obviously keen on Liverpool winning this game, but not by keeping a clean sheet. The 5/2 on offer with Betfred and Betway is currently the best available. Liverpool, for all their attacking intent and goal scoring prowess this season, have proven to be very strong defensively – mainly because they’re always attacking! But keeping Wolves out in this game may not be a simple task and the value of the price is too good to look past.

Finally, we love to place wagers on Correct Score bets – and this game is no exception. My selection of choice is for a 2-1 victory for Liverpool. This bet is available at the best industry price of 15/2 with SportingBet and Betway.

Best Bets:

  • Draw at Half-time and Liverpool to be winning at Full-time at 7/2 with 10Bet
  • Liverpool to Win the Match and Both Teams to Score at 5/2 with Betway
  • Wolves 1-2 Liverpool Correct Score bet at 15/2 with SportingBet
