Betway and Werder Bremen

We already know that Betway are one of the most active bookmakers around when it comes to sports sponsorship. The company has been involved with English Premier League side West Ham for a number of years and they have now broken into Germany’s elite, signing up with Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen.

The deal sees Betway come on board as the club’s betting partner for the next three years and it expands their existing arrangements in Germany. Betway are already betting partners for four Bundesliga 2 clubs – St Pauli, Eintracht Braunschweig, Dynamo Dresden and Union Berlin so this really boosts their profile as they partner in with a top flight German club for the first time.

Expanding

Betway have a commitment to maintain their profile in the UK while looking to expand it into the continent and this latest deal is an extension of that campaign. Aside from the German sides mentioned, the operator has also got behind Belgian club Anderlecht while sponsoring the Croky Cup – Belgium’s main knockout competition.

It’s a development that was welcomed by Betway themselves:

With a number of football sponsorships in place, the season ahead is a very exciting one for us. We’re very much looking forward to increasing our involvement in German football, especially with a top club like Bremen as they head into the 2017/18 campaign.

said Betway’s Anthony Werkman, Marketing and Operations Director.

The Bundesliga may not be seen as the most glamourous league outside of Germany but clubs like Werder Bremen attract huge crowds inside their stadiums. With this vast audience, Betway are seriously increasing their exposure outside of the UK and judging by those comments from Anthony Werkman, they are not finished yet.

Ambitious

Werder Bremen have won the German Bundesliga on four separate occasions, most recently in 2004 but these are the days of Bayern Munich dominance, and at the end of the 2016/17 campaign, Alexander Nouri’s men finished down in eighth place.

As one of the bigger sides in the German top flight, the first aim is to become a regular figure in the European places and that’s one of the reasons why the club are happy to welcome Betway on board as an official partner.

Betway are one of the leading online bookmakers in Europe and we’re thrilled to be partnering with them. It emphasizes the power of our brand that Betway have selected Werder Bremen as a partner, as they take the next step in the highest German league. We are really excited about the co-operation.

said Christian Rauhut, Werder’s Sales Director.

While those comments don’t mention the aims of the club specifically, it’s an arrangement that will hopefully help both sides to achieve their aims.

Mutual Goals

For football fans outside of Germany, the most familiar figure in the Werder Bremen squad is likely to be Max Kruse, the international striker who has a prolific record at club level. You might actually remember his poker exploits and in particular the time when he left £60,000 of poker profits in the back of a taxi.

On a serious note, this is the type of arrangement that supplies additional funds that will keep players of Kruse’s ability at the club while attracting new blood that will improve the squad.

Werder Bremen hope they will benefit from the Betway deal and start to threaten the Champions League places in the near future while at the same time, the huge fan base at the club will look to increase the operator’s exposure as they continue to build and develop their mainland European campaign.
